The current BOM term of office will end on 30th November and a new BOM will commence on 1st December 2019 and will run until 30th November 2023. We have started the process of electing parents to the new BOM. We need one mother and one father to be part of the new BOM. The mother and father must be from different families and should not be related in any way.

Every parent is entitled to be nominated for the new BOM. We need your consent to circulate your name (and the class your child/ children are in) to other parents. A letter will go home on Monday 7th October seeking your consent to circulate you name (and the class your child/ children are in) to other parents. You are asked to return the consent form to the school before 3 p.m. on Friday 11th October 2019. This is step one of a three step process.

On Monday 14th October another letter will be sent home containing the names of all the mothers and fathers that have given their consent. You will then be asked to nominate one mother and one father for the new BOM. Every parent is entitled to nominate one mother and one father. You are asked to return this nominations from by Friday 18th October. This is step two of the process.

The ten mothers and ten fathers with the most nominations will be contacted and asked if they would like to issue a short statement to other parents. The names of the ten mothers and 10 fathers with the most nominations will appear on a ballot paper. Ballot papers will be issued on Monday 4th November and must be returned to the school by 3 p.m. on Friday 8th November. This is step three of the process. The votes will be counted in public in the shared area of the school on Monday 11th November, starting at 9:30 a.m. After that the mother and father with the most votes will be contacted and asked to be part of the new BOM.

There is also a process to elect a teacher to the BOM. The principal is automatically a member of the BOM and the patron, Bishop Francis Duffy, elects two nominees to the BOM. The six nominees to the BOM (2 parents, 2 teachers and 2 patron nominees) then meet, within a specific timeframe, and select two additional members from the community.

Please note Parent Nominees are elected by the parent body to bring “a mother’s view” and “a father’s view” to Board of Management deliberations. To this end, their contribution to the Board is a very important one, and they are not required to consult with the wider parent population, take instruction from them or report back to them. Even though Parent Nominees are elected by parents, they do not represent the parent body.

If you have any questions in relation to the above please contact the school and ask to speak with the principal.
